THE CROWN.. MUST WATCH DRAMA
What's up guys.. Hope you all are doing absolutely amazing. I'm here today with another review of a show that I can't stop obsessing over.
THE CROWN π
MY GOD!!! This series blew my freaking mind. The writing, production, acting, all worth the hype and applause. Absolute Marvel.ππ»ππ»
For those of you who haven't seen this masterpiece, let's have a glimpse of what's in store for you.
The CROWN is a series on Netflix, with four seasons streaming currently and every season having 10 episodes each. Every episode is an hour long, like a mini movie.
The series depicts the life story of Queen Elizabeth II, her reign, political atmosphere and the shaping of the 20th century. We are taken across several pivotal moments in time which shaped the modern day England.
I know it might sound a bit dull. But let me remind you it's not a documentary. It's a fictionalized version of the reality and so the drama it provides is just off scales. It is truly immersive and honestly, in a way addicting.
I don't know where to start about this phenomenal show. One of the most expensive shows ever made, but every penny is worth spent as the set designs are impeccable and really draws in the audience to engage in the happenings of the Era.
Another worth the money aspect is the casting, which is nothing short of brilliant. The performances are stellar, both as a whole and individually. One set of cast works through two seasons and then the cast changes.
The show starts with Claire Foy as the Queen and Matt Smith as Prince Philip. Their brilliant performances are backed up by an astounding ensemble of supporting cast. Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, John Lithgow as Winston Churchill (which, being an American actor, he is just fab) and Jared Harris as King George VI are some notable performances for the first two seasons.
The baton gets passed onto the next cast of season 3 and 4, led by Olivia Colman(the great) as the Queen and Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip. The great Helena Bonham Carter portrays Princess Margaret and there is an unbelievable depiction of great performances from a new set of actors.
The notable ones being Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher, Josh O'connor(π) as Prince Charles and Emma Corrin as the world favourite Princess Diana. All these amazing performances have really stolen the hearts of many people and we can't wait for the next cast for season 5 and 6.
Despite the artistic and narrative liberties taken, the scripts for each episode are written in a way that feels authentic to both the historical period and the characters themselves. The writing is well-nuanced with a good balance of sombreness, drama and the occasional humour. The wide vocabulary used is also quite refreshing and frankly, good for improving one's mastery of English.
The Crown is also beautifully shot. The cinematography goes way beyond the aesthetic nature of capturing a story and they have absolutely succeeded in perfectly modelling these iconic lives in the world of fiction. And a mention for the theme tune which I am quite addicted to. π
Personally, I was eagerly waiting to get to the fourth season to explore the story of Princess Diana, and the journey to my destination was so fulfilling and my destination was spell bounding.
I was initially quite hesitant to watch it because I'm not one who fancies period dramas, but this show had me hooked and genuinely invested in the characters very early on. The show is perfectly engaging and is a very good recommendation to indulge in.
And so without doubt, my rating for this wonder of a show is very high. If you get a chance to take some time off and would like to settle for a night on the couch and popcorn, this is a definete go to.
