My Letter to 2020

 Dear mr/mrs/miss

Hello 2020.

I am Michu. One among the millions whose life you've effortlessly shattered. Have to say that I admire how easily you popularized yourself. I mean it takes FOREVER to get popular on social media.

To be honest, you started out pretty good. Things were smooth and well. Then one day you dropped the bombshell. Great tactic. Want to keep people in their places, unleash a virus.

Do you realise the people you've put in peril? Lives lost, livelihoods destroyed. Initially it was fun to be sitting at home. But then we realise that we have a house to run.

It really wasn't easy having you around. Lock down and Quarantine drove people crazy. Home supplies to run daily errands wasn't easily accessed. Now we all have to walk around covering our faces.

Do you have the slightest idea of how uncomfortable the masks are? Do you know how hard it is to pretend to be normal when it obviously is NOT?

HOW would you know. You are probably enjoying the result of your work. But there definitely were some Perks of you being around. People started focusing a bit on themselves. They learned to take a step back and introspect.

The silence that fell upon us made us all retrace our steps to our choices and decisions. People used their time wisely and have indulged themselves in various activities and goals. Weight loss was very much a popular trend.

[All I did was eat. I tried my hand in cooking but I still spent my time eating that too. I'm Rolling down the hill. PERIOD.]

We all started appreciating the little things. We've experienced a steady and important growth. I mean we've at least learned to wash our hands, so that's good.

You really were an year of expectations. And I have to say, you've exceeded them. The upcoming years are gonna have a hard time topping you on the memorable list. Nobody is ever going to forget you and the experience you've given.

It wasn't all too bad. People got married, some had kids. Not some, many had kids. I mean there definitely is a population explosion going on. Let's see how that works out. And we also lost a lot of people. I mean crime rates went down and suicide rates/death rates went through the roof.

I'm proud that we all made it out though. I don't blame you entirely. I'm sure we play a major part in pushing that trigger button on 2020. But you did push us in proving that we can be brave enough and human enough to be worthy of our existence.

I'm sorry for all the hate you are receiving, I'm thankful for all the lessons you've taught us. It took an entire year for us to grasp the idea of being our best during the worst. But taking into consideration that you were a pain, we did have an acquiescence in having you around.

And yet I cannot be more happy that we are leaving you behind. We all accept 2021 with open arms and we have high hopes of having a better year. We look forward to having more happier days and blissful experiences.

Thank you so much for hearing me out and taking time to read my letter. Hope you have a great retirement. It wasn't so lovely meeting you and hope it never happens again.

Until next time

(sorry! That was a wrong phrase. Just ignore it.)

Let's never cross paths again.

Goodbye, good luck.

CIAO.
